Dear users,
I wonder where one can find the most updated information on multiphase capabilities of PFLOTRAN. I am particularly interested in knowing (i) if there is some model available for miscible multiphase flow and (ii) if a gas source can be considered.

Thanks in advance

Paolo

Paolo,

Use GENERAL mode, and yes, you can include a gas source. The short course has an example at:

$PFLOTRAN_DIR/shortcourse/exercises/gas_injection

Paolo,

GENERAL mode is miscible multiphase with liquid and gas sources along with an energy equation that can be disabled.

http://doc-dev.pflotran.org/theory_guide/mode_general.html

We have also added the ability to transport trace gases in the bulk gas phase.

Hello Glenn, Emily,

is there an example/documentation available  on how to use this trace gas transport ?

kind regards,
Joan

Joan,

See PFLOTRAN_DIR/regression_tests/default/column/multiphase_transport_pulse.in

Note that when creating a new input deck, you must add GAS_TRANSPORT_IS_UNVETTED as the first card under the ACTIVE_GAS_SPECIES block. This card forces the user to acknowledge that gas transport is still in the process of being vetted. We believe that it is implemented correctly, and have been testing it on several other problems (not in the regression tests), but it is not fully tested (there are many approaches to implementing gas transport, especially in how one calculates the effective diffusion coefficient).

Glenn
