Dear PFLOTRAN Developers,

I see that Atlassian is phasing out both their issue tracker and their Wiki support. It looks like it may be time to move the official PFLOTRAN repos away from BitBucket. The PETSc team has had an excellent experience using GitLab (and it has pretty good free features for open-source projects, which the PETSc team receives), so that might be a good home to consider. (It's that or Github, really.) Thoughts?

Bitbucket Cloud Issues and Wikis are being removed
Action needed: migrate them to Jira/Confluence or export prior to August 20, 2026
Hi Richar...@gmail.com,
We're sunsetting Bitbucket Cloud's native Issues and Wikis features so we can focus on better experiences in Jira Software and Confluence.
You're receiving this message because your Bitbucket workspace pflotran has one or more repositories that currently use Issues, Wikis, or both.
Key dates
Starting April 2026: you'll no longer be able to enable Issues or Wikis on repositories that don't already use them.
On August 20, 2026: existing Issues and Wikis, including related API endpoints, will be removed from Bitbucket Cloud.
What you need to do
For any repositories that use Issues or Wikis, we recommend that you:
Export or migrate Issues to Jira Software
Clone and move Wikis to Confluence
Connect Bitbucket and Jira to keep your code, bugs, and feature work linked
If you need help identifying which repositories have Issues or Wikis enabled, our team can provide a list on request.

I agree that GitLab is an excellent resource, especially since they have granted a free Ultimate license through their open source program for the past four years. As for Bitbucket, we do not utilize the issue tracker, and the wiki is essentially redundant since it only directs users to the documentation. Therefore, the removal of these features will not impact us. Are there any other reasons we should consider moving away from Bitbucket?
