Hello everyone

I was wondering if you know any way for typing the Persian Decimal Separator (https://codepoints.net/U+066B) on Android phones other than Pixel and OnePlus (pure Android). For some reason, the character has not been added to GBoard yet.

Thank you,

Behzad Samadi

Humm. I don't know if Pixel is different from GBoard. If I remember correctly, the Persian decimal separator used to be on longpress slash. I argued for it to be closer to digits and it was moved to its current place. But that was over two years ago (and instigated by you IIRC).

Hello,

There are multiple ways depending on different factors:
– more convenient: character picker app (e.g. Unicode Charmap)
– less convenient: use web pickers; Richard Ishida has great utilities, or Unicode utilities.
– experimental and untested: side-load Gboard

Hope it helps.

Best regards,

Thank you Behdad for your quick reply. Two years ago, when we discussed the issue, I had a OnePlus 5 and I was able to see the character. At the time, my friends who did not have pure Android on their phones could not see the character. Recently, I went back to see if I could find a way to type a character on my Samsung phone. Nothing worked though.

Just now, I went back to our conversation two years ago and I realized that I had missed one step: adding Farsi on Settings/Languages. I am now able to see the character by long pressing 0 on GBoard.

This is exactly where users on Samsung need to add Farsi: Settings/General management/Language and input/Language.

This is awesome! Thank you Shervin for your suggestions. I tried side-loading GBoard. It did not work for me so I uninstalled it and installed Gboard from the Play Store again. It would be good if someone else tries just installing GBoard and adding Farsi as a Language to see if it works.

Thank you all,

Behzad

It seems that I celebrated too early. I can see the Persian decimal separator on GBoard by long pressing on 0 but it seems that Telegram is not compatible with this feature (it used to be compatible).
On Telegram, I type the character but I get a comma like character. WhatsApp and Skype and default Android apps were fine as far as I tested.

Weird. I've never heard of anything like that before...

...well I did a few days ago: Apparently Skype's Android app strips ZWNJs from messages...

I'm told Twitter's "story" feature also does not work if you type Persian...
