I am working on making automation for pentaho PDI installation,

how can I install Pentaho PDI without having to type or enter stuff by hand?

Hi Med,

Pentaho doesn't require much (other than extracting the Tarball/ZIp). I've used Chef to add some additional elements such as Jar files, jdbc.properties, and kettle.properties. Chef and Puppet are just a few of many deployment automation tools that will give you additional control over what gets delivered. You might also consider a build server that will allow you to assemble things as you need them and allow others to download the complete image.

If you're only dealing with some end users - you may want to consider something like chef-solo or a virtualbox image.

Hope that helps,

David

I also use chef but the binary for pdi that I downloaded from pentaho site is not a tar file. It is a binary and when you run it in text mode you have to answer a few questions.

That file is the demo for pentaho enterprise edition; if you use community it's just a tar file.

If you want to use EE, i believe there's an option to accept the EULA, and options to set the other prompt options, but I'm not sure.

Cheers,
Nelson

Get a support ticket or contact your CSM. What you need is the manual install, and you'll be able to automate that.
