This follows: Peerage & Baronetage deaths & births, 2022 (Peerage News Group)
6 years of work on this can be found here: Peerage & Baronetage deaths & births (Google Docs) - 2022 has received updates on the Google Doc only, as have other years.

Henry,

Another outstanding job!

Thanks so much for your annual list.   It's our group's "year in review" of the most important events.

I always use it to check and see if I've missed anything.

You are most kind Brooke - a labour of love, but in going through the posts I often find some I have missed - I've been busy with other things, especially the past few months. Particularly worried that I've missed a birth somewhere.

This is indeed a labour of love and respect.

Just a minor point: my father, James Jonathan Benn, 4th baronet, died on 3rd October, not 10th October.

With very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year,

Robin Benn

I will wait a couple more weeks before doing the transfer to Google.

It seems ironic that the hereditary peers are all clustered in the earlier part of the year with only three since August and none at all in September and December. Also no non royal Dukes for almost four and a half years. Is this a record length of time for no Dukedoms to change hands?
Also no Marquessates since 2021

Cheating slightly, but no non-royal dukedoms changed hands between 1572 and 1623 (over 50 years), for the simple reason that there weren't any.

(There were no non-royal dukes in England between the forfeiture of the Dukedom of Norfolk in 1572 (it was not restored until 1660) and the creation of the Dukedom of Buckingham in 1623. There were no dukes at all between 1572 and the accession of James I in 1603 (over 30 years), at which point his eldest son Henry automatically became Duke of Cornwall. In the absence of dukes, the senior peers were the Marquesses of Winchester, who held the only marquessate until the creation of the Marquessate of Buckingham in 1618.)

Bremen,
It depends on who you consider "royal".HH The Duchess of Fife(HRH Princess Arthur of Connaught) died in 1959.She was the only holder of a ducal title to die between the 9th Duke of Atholl in 1957 and the 5th Duke of Sutherland in 1963.
I expect when the next duke dies there will be other dukes who die within a short space of time.

Bremen,

I don't think this pattern is that unusual at all.  My attempts to collate some data on this for just a few recent years show that two months per year with no hereditary peer deaths is quite normal, and for them to "cluster" into a bit of the year happens every few years as well.

Perhaps the most remarkable pattern this year is that we only have 19 deaths of Baronets at current count.  This is the lowest I have recorded so far.

Fife is a non royal Dukedom held by a minor member of the royal family.Between the death of Princess Alexandra 26 February 1959 and the fifth Duke of Sutherland 1 February 1963 there were three years eleven months. The present interlude of over four years seems to be the longest of modern times(from 1900 onwards)

Deaths of Baronets
Smith-Marriott (8 Nov),  Muir (date unknown ?Dec)

I have now updated the Google Doc that tracks over time:
On this document I am also working on updating the 2017 records.

I have also updated the numerical tracker by month:

The largest number of deaths of hereditary peers (28) in some years (no year exceeds this in my records), but somewhat offset by a low number of baronet deaths (22, though not a recent low as previously thought).  The total number of hereditary deaths is 50, slightly lower than last year (53), but greater than all years 2018-2021.

Worth noting that in the big year of Covid 19 2020 the numbers are low

I've been keeping the Google Doc updated (linked two posts above) - thanks particularly to Colin for bringing these to light.

Includes the additional baronet deaths:
Nelson (2 June), von Friesendorff (21 Nov), Munro [1634] (22 Nov)

2 June & 26 Dec both had TWO baronet deaths on the same day.

Hi Bremen - whilst I never noted the death on this thread, I did update the Google Doc in November 2024 when the death came to light a year after 7th Earl's death:
Peerage & Baronetage deaths & births
