From the Telegraph of 8 June 2021: MONTGOMERY CUNINGHAME Laura Violet died peacefully on the 2nd June 2021. Much loved wife of John and mother of Christian, Nina and Elizabeth. The funeral will be held at St James The Less, Winterbourne on Saturday 19th June. No wreaths please. Due to Covid restrictions and limited space, would those who would like to attend please contact the family.

She was d of Sir Godfrey NICHOLSON 1st & last Bt 1901-91 and Lady Katharine Constance LINDSAY 1912-72 d of 27th Earl of CRAWFORD & (10th) BALCARRES 1871-1940 and Constance Lilian 1874-1947 d of Sir Henry Carstairs PELLY 3rd Bt 1844-77 and Lady Lilian Harriet CHARTERIS 1851-1914 (d of 10th Earl of WEMYSS 1818-1914 and gd of 1st Earl of LICHFIELD 1795-1854 etc etc etc). She m 1964 Sir John Christopher Foggo MONTGOMERY CUNINGHAME of Corsehill 12th Bt b 1935 s of Sir Thomas Andrew Alexander MONTGOMERY CUNINGHAME of Corsehill 11th Bt 1877-1945 and his 2nd wife (her 1st h) Nancy Macaulay FOGGO (m 2nd Johan Kilander), and had three daus as above.

There is no heir to the baronetcy.

Sir Walter Montgomery-Cuninghame, 4th Bt., lodged a claim to the Earldom of Glencairn in 1797 but it was denied. 

He and the succeeding Baronets have likely been heirs male to the earldom, but it is disputed whether it was created for heirs general or heirs male.

Are there any other possible claimants to this dormant earldom via heirs mail in tail if indeed such a remainder was ascribed to the earldom?

I should have said that this generally applies only to legitimate lines, and a bastard would have no heirs male, the son of a bastard would have heirs male only descended from his father, etc.
