There are actually two lists “Dissolution peerages 2019” (confusingly this includes the two knighthoods for Philip May and Raymond Puddifoot) and “Political Peerages 2020”

Has anyone got confirmation (exact date and location?} of the wedding of Michael Spencer to Sarah Milford Haven pls?  Its just that when I posted here in 2019 asking for info (as I noticed she had a different name - which I sadly couldnt read, on her badge at Royal Ascot)... no one seemed to know anything.... and yet this says she married him in 2016?  I would be very grateful for any info please.... was there any announcement made?  I knew they had been together for many years etc but obviously missed their marriage.

According to wikipedia (for what it's worth),  Michael and Sarah Spencer married in June 2016.

No source is cited.

I can't find the exact details you require, but the directors' details for SIRAI MANAGEMENT LTD (Company number 06116831) from Companies House show that Lady Sarah Georgina Milford Haven (sic) changed her name to Mrs Sarah Georgina Spencer on 9 June 2016. The document wasn't filed until November 2016, which suggests the June date is the date of the wedding.

A simple question, as we await for these new peerages to be gazetted. When an announcement like this has been made, no one can use their new peerage until it is gazetted ? Is it the same case even for the Queen when granting Peerage ?  How come it can take weeks or months before it is gazetted ?

Thank you in advance..

It has to be created before it can be used.

It most certainly can’t be used before it has been identified! Not, of course, that this stops the press – I’ve already seen references to “Lord Botham”. Perhaps “Lord Botham” may prefer a title that doesn’t involve his surname. Who knows?

That’s true – I’d forgotten about how Cambridge and Sussex were created some weeks after the respective weddings. However, I don’t think this was the case for York and Wessex … was it? (Don’t have access to a list of dates here so relying on memory.)

The main difference (in practical terms at least) is that the announcements of royal peerages invariably specify the peerages, whereas the standard announcements do not. We don't know whether any of these people will be Lord/Lady [Surname], [Surname] of [Place], or just [Place].

Indeed they were on their wedding day. Can't explain the change...

I seem to remember one of the Royal 18C creation was announced as one title but created as another...

That's right - when Prince Frederick (later Prince of Wales), eldest son of George, Prince of Wales (later King George II), was created Duke of Edinburgh in 1726, one of his subsidiary titles was gazetted as Marquess of the Isle of Wight, but he was actually created Marquess of the Isle of Ely.
