I remember there was some discussion here a little while back about the Route 29 Business bridge over the Rappahannock River in Remington. I do not remember whether anyone said it was passable for cyclists or not. In any case, as of this morning, the ends are wrapped with yellow tape in such a way that anyone using what there is of the bridge could not disavow having ignored that yellow tape. I'm happy to report that there is enough shoulder on the Route 29 bypass to skip that section, although the shoulder has those damnable rumbles to contend with.

The Inn at Kelly's Ford is still closed. We did not check on the bathroom situation at the Citgo in Remington, so you are on your own.

My advice to anybody riding long these days:

- Bring extra water. This might mean adding another cage to your bike (e.g. a behind-the-saddle cage mount like triathletes use) or carrying extra in a jersey pocket or hydration pack.
- Bring extra food. Handlebar bags are all the rage among the gravel set, and for good reason. The newest bags are wonderful, stable, and don't look like big boxes strapped to your 'bars. I love the offering from Rickshaw Bags: simple and useful.

Honestly, it's the safest way to go about things: minimize your vectors.

Be safe, folks!

Rudi (who is grateful he spec'ed a third cage mount on his Moots)

Saturday I put two 0.7 l bottles in the cages and another in rack bag.  That’s 2.1 l (2.1 kg) in mass but it beats running out.  On solo rides I prefer to only touch my bike and what’s on it.

We definitely aimed to be self-contained. This was "Between the Rivers", which has nowhere to stop after Brandy Station, except for the Inn at Kelly's Ford. My mention of the Inn and the Citgo was informational. We had our picnic on top of a pump house at the deserted looking Ruritan Club in Lignum.
