All, I've just purchased a '74 10m (#55) and she has CNG rather than propane.  I'm fortunate to have a local marine store that does CNG cylinder exchanges, so I'm not looking to replace the system.  By chance, does anyone here who has moved away from CNG have a Force 10 Cozy Cabin CNG heater they want to unload?  I really like this style because of the small pipe running through the deck.

Many thanks in advance!  Jeff

Sig Marine's Cozy Cabin heater is the same as the Force 10.  I needed to replace the burner assembly and discovered that Force 10 was no longer, but taken over by Sig Marine of Canada.

Oops, seems Dickinson Europe bought the manufacturing rights to the Force 10/Sig Marine, but no longer produces.

Ebay...https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=force+10+cozy+cabin+heater&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313

My oven and old Force 10 seem to be able to work with butane as well in an emergency. When I run out of propane, I can use Campingaz.

Hi George-

Yes…it seems the company has been absorbed a few times over the years. There are multitudes of used propane versions out there, but I’m not finding CNG nor the propane-to-CNG conversion kits that may have existed. I’ve read about folks converting from propane, but haven’t found an instance of anyone going the other way.

I know they’re not the absolute best in terms of efficiency, but it would be good for chilly night here in SF.

My 10M originally had CNG, the bottle was next to the companionway stairs.  However, the CNG was only used for the stove.  The bottle and stove was gone when I got it.  CNG does not contain many btus because of the small high pressure bottle required, and small volume.
You will find that a CNG bottle will not provide heat for many hours because of the low energy density of CNG.   Check out the btu output of your desired stove.  Then determine how many cubic feet of natural gas your bottle holds.

100 cubic feet of natural gas is about 100,000 btu.

So if your heater consumes 8000 btu, thats about 8 cubic feet per hour.

I think a typical "marine" CNG tank is 60 cubic feet I believe.

So 60/8 would mean one tank will power your heater for 7.5 hours.

So not great.

I would look into a diesel heater.  There are a lot of Webasto clones being made in China.

Diesel has about 140,000 btus per gallon.

So at 8,000 btus, a gallon is good for 140/8 or 17.5 hours.

Vevor and others sell them on Ebay and Amazon.  There are loads of Youtube videos about them.

All of this stuff can be dangerous, but Id go with a diesel heater.  They sell exhaust thru  hulls for these.  Id turn it off when you sleep, or use CO detectors.   CO detectors are a good thing in any case.

Jeff;
You can probably re-jet a propane stove for use with natural gas.
I've done this at home with new ovens that come from the store jetted for natural gas and also include a set of jets sized for propane. We have propane at home.
We have a Force 10 cabin heater, I like it.
