Good Morning Pearson owners  warming up here  in the North east  and time to think about  projects  ...

I have a 1977   pearson 10  M  strting to show its age  ...the blue Fiber glass  under layer is poking through  in several  places  .what should  I use  to   spot paint several   areas ?

each  one is no  more than  2X 3  inches at best  .  Should  i be mixing new gel coat
or just painting with   1 part  epoxy paint  .

ideally  the entire  cnin top  needs to be  repainted and the port lights
rebed  ... but thats  not on the schedule for this year..

The worst part  is that all the  thining areas  are on the port sie of the boat  visiable
when  you board the boat  .

Any ideas   ?

Dock with your head away from the dock?

The infamous Pearson swirl, is that what you're describing?
Since the spots are small and it sounds like you don't want to make a major project out of this. You could use a Preval sprayer to spray waxed gel-coat on the bare spots. You'll need to thin the gel-coat in order to use the Preval sprayer, and it might be best to build up thickness is several thin layers to prevent runs and sags with the thinned gel-coat. You could also spray with a real spray gun using a 2.0 tip and probably get the coverage you need with a single coat.

How can you get a good color match?
If your going to setup an hvlp gun, doesnt it make sense to do the entire hull topsides?

Assuming you have white topsides with blue non-skid and the blue gel-coat is worn away showing the white underneath.
Spray guns aren't that hard to set up and once set up can quickly deliver product.
I suggested spot treating with gel-coat because it preserves more options than paint if you want to expand and do larger areas.
There are services that will match your gel-coat for you. I'm not very good at color matching, so I would probably spray an entire section. The problem with spraying over the non-skid surface is that you will partially fill the non-skid surface.
Gel-coat will not fill small cracks, they need to be addressed ahead of time.
I think you could spray gel-coat and if you think it filled in the non-skid to much, spray a second coat and sprinkle some grit into the wet gel-coat.
Another option is to look at kiwi-grip and stick on non skid sheets.

I gel-coated one of my sail locker lids and put this stuff on top. It looks surprisingly good and is comfortable underfoot and to sit on.

My mistake; I thought he was talking about the hull topsides, not the deck.  My blue deck non skid was painted over long ago.
