Hi All,

Happy Christmas eve. A big thank you to Jeff for cleaning up the Portland Brewers Cup website, it looks great! I hope you all survived the Great Lumen Outage we just had.

For this competition, we are encouraging group brews and limiting it to one entry from each club. Why do I bring this up? Because we should start thinking about what we want to do as a collective for an entry.

Please reply with some Styles and dates and I will put out a survey starting in the New Year.

Happy Holidays!

Hey Cory/PBC,

Here are my two cents, brewing by consensus is unlikely to be much fun in the end. I suggest that members throw their name in the ring if they would like to participate and we randomly select 3-4 folks to do the PBC brew in our name. Or we could vote on who we want to represent us based on who nominated themselves. Then those folks figure out what to make.

And/OR we have multiple teams, each brews what they want and then the strongest entry gets voted on for submission at the Feb meeting?

That sounds like more fun to me.

Also, every beer that is brewed is still submissible, just not for the special group category.

I like Michele's idea, otherwise we end up like the barrel project where nothing got started when there wasn't consensus on recipe or even style. I would suggest designating one person to be the main brewer (could be a vote) who would also volunteer their setup and space, and they can take feedback but are the ultimate decider. They would also agree that any members could join on brew day.

I think as a club we have several people consistently making great American IPAs. It's cliche, but also the best chance IMO of a successful submission.

Hey gang,

What size batch are we wanting to brew? And are we trying to split it amongst members? I'd just point out that it would be easy with a bottle conditioned beer (like a BDS led by Mark, for example) but for an IPA it's better to just have an event and drink the keg together as a club after bottling for PBC PBC.

I think Cory's idea of doing multiple groups and picking the strongest is very wise.

I'd be happy to volunteer my system if anybody wants to join me. I can't do more than about 6 gallons, depending on OG. Maybe we forn a handful of teams based on what they want to brew. Big lager team, trappist team, SHV team, Hoppy team, idk. I'm open to suggestions.

I also think Cory's idea has the potential to get more people involved. I too would be willing to host a brew session.
