Brave adventurers,
Do you crave a new experience for your First Thursday art appreciation excursion? Are you yet tired of drinking fresh hop beer? Would you rather your tastebuds tingled with a different sparkling local beverage? Perhaps you'd even like to bring some home to ferment for yourself??
If the answer is “yes” to any or all of these questions, please join us at 7:00pm this Thursday, October 2nd at:
Bauman's on Oak
930 SE Oak St
Portland, OR 97214
Oregon cider has been having a moment on the national and international stage in recent years, and Bauman's Cider is up there with the absolute best of them! A couple of years ago, they took over the old Base Camp/Ecliptic Moon Room brewery and turned it into their production facility and tasting room. What better way to enjoy the beginning of fall than with cider 'n friends?
Additionally, they have invited us to their JUICE PARTY! Every once in a while, Bauman's invites home fermenters into their production facility to fill up on their fresh-pressed estate-grown juice by the gallon. On this particular occasion, they are offering their juice for $6/gallon, which feels like an absolute steal; just bring your own sanitized fermenter or container! They have asked us to sign up in their Google form, so if you're interested, please do so here:
Because their Juice Party technically goes from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, they've asked us to show up as early as we can for our First Thursday gathering and they will graciously keep the juice flowing for us. So, in the interest of respecting their time, if you would like to participate in the Juice Party, please arrive no later than 6:30pm.
Hope to see you next Thursday at Bauman's!
Cheers,
Ian
P.S. - You'll need to pitch your own yeast for this cider, so make sure you have that ready to go! When it comes to cider, I'm a pretty straightforward Cote des Blanc guy (the little green Red Star yeast packet) which dries it out nicely but keeps all of those fruit nuances intact. Otherwise, Lalvin D47 or 71D are great, as are the White Labs or Wyeast cider strains. I've yet to use any of the Safcider strains, but I'm sure those are okay too.
Here is a helpful comparison video!
