Need help -Building a virtual box image on a Windows 2016 VM running on XenServer fails

Hello there,

Our infrastructure is all running on XenServer. All our VM's are hosted on XenServer.

I need to build a virtual box image using Packer. The Packer will be running on one of these Vm's, hosted on the XenServer.

The problem i am currently seeing is that, whenever i execute Packer on the VM, the VM freezes. I am begining to think that this is a limitation of XenServer not supporting nested virtualization.

I followed the guidelines at https://justus.berlin/2015/07/nested-virtualization-in-citrix-xenserver-6-5-sp1/, to enable nested virtualization in the VM.

However, it still does not work.

Has anyone been able to get this working?

Please note that i am able to build the VirtualBox image on a physical system but not on a VM running on XenServer.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I am using XenServer 7.5.0. The VM where Packer is running is a Windows 2016 DataCenter edition. I have tried this with different versions of Packer and its still the same result.

First of all, can you manually run a VirtualBox VM on the Xen VM? (i.e. does nested virt and VirtualBox work?
