Hey everyone,
A few important notes:
Firstly, we are wrapping up the 2025/2026 year pretty soon.
Sometime near the end of May, I will plan our official "last meeting" for the school year. We will hold our classic Seabright beach meeting where the cubs will receive their rank patches for the year. More information on that will come soon; I'm just working out some logistics as I'll be traveling May 7 - May 23rd.
Secondly, we have two campsites planned at Refugio State Beach from May 24th to May 26th. Originally my travel plans had me returning May 21st and I planned to attend; however, the airlines changed our dates. Are others planning to camp? I can no longer assist with the planning. Please let me know soon; otherwise, I can cancel the reservation and return the funds to the pack's account.
(I'm super bummed to not make this as
@Matthew O'Bannon really sold me on this park)
Lastly, I wanted to inform you all of some upcoming changes for the 2026/2027 year.
Rachel and I are expecting our fourth child at the end of October. I will be returning to "baby jail" for a while, and I don't think I will be able to continue in my current capacity as Cubmaster. Being the Cubmaster for the pack has been incredibly rewarding and I've enjoyed participating in all the Scout activities with my 2 sons but I don't think I can commit the same attention while sleep-deprived.
I spoke with
@Matthew O'Bannon and
@Derek Anderson and we discussed what a 2026/2027 plan will look like. Specifically, we ask that for each registered Cub Scout:
- At least one of their guardians/parents sign up as an adult leader (mandatory online training & fingerprinting, similar to school volunteering).
- Attends the alternating week online parent meetings
- Commit to a volunteer position / opportunity within the pack (treasurer, camping chair, meeting activities, running the blue and gold banquet, leading fall recruitment, running Pinewood Derby, or even becoming Cubmaster). We can develop a point-system to make involvement more straightforward, as shown in the attachment.
Our goal is to increase group involvement so we can continue together. After all, Cub Scouting works best when everyone is involved, and the youth we serve benefit from our combined talents. To that end, and in an effort to continue to grow our pack, we will be conducting fall recruitment in 2026 and this standard for parent involvement will also be communicated to new prospective parents.
This morning during breakfast Zaedyn & Caelan were reciting the Scout Oath and Law. The progress is slow but it was really rad to see it land.
Thank you all for the amazing year thus far.
