Cool bee find: Andrena clarkella

Good morning!

I was going through some female Andrena looking for large and fuzzy Andrena (typically A. carlini or A. dunningi- two pretty common species) when I came across a bee with BRIGHT orange hair and integument on the hind tibia and basitarsi (lower part of the back leg). This is pretty unusual.

Turns out this is Andrena clarkella - a Salix specialist and, according to our checklist, hasn't been seen in 35 years as of 2018.

This bee was collected by Mary! Cool find.
