Hey Everyone,

My neighbor found these insects moving into the carpenter bee nest.  It is the roofline of her porch about 12 feet up which make photographing difficult.

i will be back in Camp Hill at end of week and will try and net,

In the meantime, any thoughts on what it might be?  If parasitic, is there something she might do to deter it?

Hi Everyone, Happy 4th of July!

I hope everyone had a safe holiday. 

I was spared but there is a lot of storm damage throughout the area, downed trees and debris, property damage and power outages! The city has been across the street for about an hour removing fallen trees.

I am happy for the rain, my flowers were on life support and today they look like they are going to make it. I have seen far less bees around this year for sure! Hopefully that's not the same for everyone. 

Susan, my deck railing is a regular insect zoo! 

Every year I have carpenter bees, tiger bee flies and occasionally sculptured resin bees. 

Per David Bittinger he told me if you have carpenter bees (Xylocopa) you are probably going to have tiger bee flies (Xenox tigrinus) nearby. They are parasites to carpenter bees. 

I have also had resin bees (Sculpturalis) hanging around as well. Like many other bees in the Megachile family looking for available preexisting cavity sites, how convenient to find these already predrilled cavities! 

I watched for days as the resin bee flew in with big globs of resin. Later, I noticed carpenter bee parts and yellow

The bee parts and pollen looks like they were carpenter bees and pollen provisions tossed

out by the resin bee. 

I didn't do anything about either bee and did not notice an increase in the resin bee population the following year.
