Dear all,

I would like to model radiocarbon dates and OSL dates from multiple different sites to construct a chronological sequence. I wonder whether it's allowed to do in one model? If yes, which model should I use (Combine and Phase model)?

Here are some dates I use:
Site 1
  R_Date("S-EVA28447", 41720, 390)
  R_Date("S-EVA28448", 40480, 320)
  R_Date("S-EVA28445", 39570, 290)
Site 2
  R_Date("OZV658", 38080, 310)
  R_Date("OZV653", 35100, 340)
  R_Date("OZV661", 31230, 310)
Site 3
  Date("OSL1",ND(calBP(36700), 3200/2))
  Date("OSL2",ND(calBP(35000), 3300/2))
  Date("OSL3",ND(calBP(29100), 2800/2))

I would appreciate any feedbacks.

Best,
Paige

Dear Paige,

You should only use Combine when dates relate to the same object or event. You can incorporate multiple sites in one model if you have a logical relationship between them, for example, they all relate to the same archaeological period. The model will depend on the nature of your stratigraphic data and the questions you want to ask, but at a minimum is likely to use Boundary, Sequence and Phase commands. There are examples of simple models in the manual in the section on Constraints https://c14.arch.ox.ac.uk/oxcalhelp/hlp_analysis_oper.html#constr

Best wishes

Andrew
