Hi dear singing community of the Ottawa Valley!

As we've talked about, we're trying to make our singing more accessible to more people and so change is here!

In December, we will be singing from the 2025 Sacred Harp at a new location (a trial, nothing set in stone) and, exceptionally, on a different Sunday as the 21st is too close to the holidays for a lot of us.

Join us at 📍the McNabb Recreation Centre at 180, Percy St, Ottawa.
We'll be in the pre-school room (see pictures attached).
On 📆 Sunday, December 14, from 1:30 to 4PM. (The first day of Hanukkah!)

There is free parking on site!

We'll have books to lend you and copies of the new 2025 edition to sell you ($30 - cash only).

Please bring your water bottle, cough drops, a snack and your kiddos! We had a baby join us last month, which was lovely. Start 'em young! 😅

The event is free, of course, and we welcome donations to pay for the room + fund the purchase of loaner books. Cash is easier 😉

If this will be your first time singing shape note, just introduce yourself to someone and we'll show you the ropes! Beginners are always welcome.

Here's one of the new songs from the 2025 revision: 279 Mink Hollow
And a beloved oldy, sung at a convention: 569 Sacred Throne

Okay that's it! See you there!

Very last minute ask!

If someone can print 10 copies of the music attached to this email and bring them today, I would be very grateful!

Also, bring your mug; I am bringing herbal tea to share!

That would be lovely, Olly! I would love to learn it for sure. Especially since Shelley is the Sacred Harp singer that started the group in Ottawa (I think!).

Want me to print a few copies of the lyrics to pass around?

Hi Steph,

I was wondering - you mentioned that the 14th is the first day of Hanukah. There's a little hanukah song I like -The La la la la Latke song. I know this is a Sacred Harp group but I was wondering if it would be ok if I  teach it to the group to sing?
Here's the recording below.
Happy Friday
Olly
