Hi all,

I want to launch my study on Prolific with a room link, has anyone tried this before (so no participant labels)? Is there any downside of using a room link directly?

The reason I do not use oTree HR here is that I may run into a case where I need to change something of the experiment, and I cannot stop my Prolific study and launch a new one (I am using representative sample).

Any information would be much appreciated!

Best,
Renee

Why can’t you stop your prolific study with oTree HR? To me the process seems the same. You would stop the study through the prolific interface, regardless of whether your start link is an oTree HR link or a room URL.

Hi Chris,

Sorry my message is kind of vague. The reason I do not use HR is that I want to keep the experiment link the same: if I use HR, my understanding is that the link posted to Prolific is session-specific. So if I change my experiment from oTree, I cannot reuse the same link. Once a Prolific study is live, I cannot change the link anymore. So I can only think of using a room link, such that even if I change something from oTree, I do not need to stop my current Prolific study and launch a new one with new link.

I do not want to stop my Prolific study and start a new one: if we are using representative sample, we need to pay an extra fee for that feature. This fee is paid upfront and I am not sure if we can get a refund for that even if we stop the experiment half way.

I hope this clears things up a bit, thank you!

Best,
Renee

OK I see. The advantage to using oTree HR is that it automatically generates a batch payment file to give everyone their bonus. Also I think it is more reliable overall because it records all data about a participant such as their Prolific ID, survey ID, and some other stuff. I don’t know how reliable it is just recording the prolific ID.

Hi Chris,

I agree! I have been using HR for all my previous Prolific studies and it is working well. But this study is a bit special as it is larger in sample size with representative sample feature. I want to be prepared to change something in otree if necessary. The money paid for this study is also significant so that is why I do not want to risk it.

Thank you Chris!

Best,
Renee
