Hi all,

Spring has sprung in all its windy glory, and it is a good time to visit Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. For those who have not been, it is a magical area of hoodoos and slot canyons and the main hike is a mere 1.2 miles. The whole area was closed during COVID and just reopened last year. By far the most arduous part of the Tent Rocks experience is getting tickets. Tent Rocks is on BLM land and the adult admission is $20/person, but this is reduced to a $1 service charge if you have any of the “America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass”es (an “Interagency”pass). You must also have a $20 tribal access pass from the Cochiti Pueblo. You can use David’s or my interagency pass and if the ordering process for both passes is confusing one of us can explain it to you. But don’t wait too long! Today there are 89 day passes left for May 8th, but they do generally sell out.

Here’s the website to get you started:

I propose that we meet at a time we all agree on (8:00am or 9:00am), carpool to Tent Rocks and spend a good part of the day there. With the hoodoos it is a great place for photos. We should take a picnic lunch. Those that want more hiking might want to extend the day to the petroglyph hike at Caja del Rio.

Please RSVP to David or myself if you’d like to join us.

Hi Megan:
Just went on the website and says all tickets for 5/8 have been released.  I am traveling and don’t have my National Park pass with me so don’t know if that would have helped.
If there is another way to get a ticket - i am interested in joining the hike
