now that I'm able to see my interface, can the traffic generator go over "mininet"? , I use mininet script to create a a topology on my controller and when  I'm send traffic to the interface no traffic gets through.  below is packets counter for ping that i created in mininet, when i used ostinato to send icmp traffic the counter never increase.

Roger,

Make sure that src/dst IP and src/dst mac are correctly set in the Ostinato stream.

If you are using Mac address mode as resolve, make sure they are indeed resolved.

You can verify this by capturing the packets being sent out of the interface during transmit.

I haven't tried mininet personally yet.

Is this captured packet generated by 'ping' or by Ostinato? Did you generate ICMP Echo Request or Reply from Ostinato? I see the request in the capture has a reply

Srivats,

I was able to send traffic with ICMP but not tcp or udp, i'm investigating more. To help other users when running mininet open up xterm inside mininet the launch Ostinato.

Srivats,

Roger,

Ostinato supports both TCP and UDP - but TCP is stateless; it cannot do 3-way handshake and establish TCP connections.

I installed the mininet VM, started mininet with "sudo -E mn" which uses the default minimal topology with 2 hosts and 1 switch and then from h1 sent TCP and UDP streams successfully to h2.

Here's the output of dump-flows -

I saved the streams in the attached file that you can open in Ostinato. Note that these are streams on h1 towards h2 for the default mininet topology. You need to open an xterm on h1 using "xterm h1" followed by starting Ostinato from that h1's xterm.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Roger,

I hope you were able to use Ostinato with mininet successfully.

I just published a blog post about the same based on my experiments over the weekend -
