Moin All,

I am in the process of verifying my family tree and correcting sources. I am using the OSB books available in Salt Lake City as well as the genealogy.net ones. And I am confused ...

My 4G Grandparents were Here Willems BAKKER and Hiske ALBERTS, b. 4 Nov 1762 and d. 26 May 1823. The OSB Rorichum has her parents as Albert Janssen Otten Boumester (1730-1772) and Trientje Teeden BARTH (1734-1772). They are also found in the OSB for Borssum, under the surname OTTEN.

My question is the record(s) for Trientje BARTH. OSB Borssum has DOB 23 May 1734 Gandersum and DOD 17 April 1772 Gross Borssum, married to Albert Janssen OTTEN w/ issue born 1754 - 1770.

OSB Gandersum has her DOB 21 May 1734, bp. 23 May, and DOD 8 Apr 1819 Petkum, married to Bernhardt's SANDERS w/ issue born 1761 - 1762.

Is this the same person? Trientje's father is Thede BARTH, and Gandersum has her mother as Tryntje HARMS. Is this just different individuals with the same or similar name?

Thanks for reading ( I did not intend to be this wordy),

I cannot tell you if it is the same person or not.  Do the birth dates, marriage dates, death dates match?  husband's name etc.

I find it easiest if I put this into a table of resources and what each resource called her.  Then I can more easily see what matches and what doesn't.

Barth is not a patronym and Harms is---she could have adopted a generational surname.  I recommend you look at the original. (Ancestry and/or FamilySearch) you may find more information there that the transcriber didn't include--occupation or some mention of the multiple names.  Often this very important information is not included in the books AND the books could be wrong.  I use the OSBs as finding aids---to help me find the records in the film rolls.

Just my thoughts on the matter--but I like to write up these types of problems anyway.  How will your descendent know how you got to a conclusion if you dont' explain how you got there?  Then they just ignore your hard work and "she was wrong." OR muck it up somehow.  Write it up and include it in your database.

Jill
