How can I hide overhead power lines and towers? I find those distracting when hiking (alpine running), when I need instead to quickly distinguish between useful lines (contour lines, paths etc). I saw no specific layers for power lines in the Hide/POI menus, and hiding all "Overground objects" is obviously overkill.

You can't do that. It is not one of the options.
A couple of years ago I made a render file that did exactly this: not showing these power lines and towers.
That is your only option.

Thanks Harry. Could you maybe link me to that render file, if available?

I don't have it anymore. Next to that: Rendering has changed and over the years rendering has become more complex. I can't make it in 10 minutes or so.
It should now be made with a boolean statement like "hidePowerPolesLines"  (like "hideBuildings") and apply it to the several properties.

Please find attached your "No power power poles lines" render file.
Copy it in your OsmAnd folder in the folder rendering.
Really close OsmAnd and then restart it.
It should now be one of the possible renders.

Thank you Harry! Here's to a world whose maps contain no power lines , lol.. in all honesty, I guess those may be useful to the odd orienteering fan out there, but for most people I'd bet they are an overkill annoyance

If you prefer not to see them, that's your call. I find them highly
useful as they are visible landmarks, helping to orient me when hiknig
and driving. Plus power lines are interesting :-)

This is the first request I remember seeing to not render them. It
might be that a more general feature to avoid rendering various things
would be useful, as I suspect each person has things that they don't
want to see.

All that remains is for Someone(tm) to prepare a patch!

perfect job, just added it to my render style. Power lines (and razed railways) are hard to distinguish from path and sometimes misleading. I use this reduced rendering only in one profile. Switching profiles will allow to see the full data.
Thank you (again) Harry

+1. We have several trails near here where the location of the
powerline helps a lot in identifying the trail. I remember how
pleased I was the first time I tried to locate one of them and
discovered that OsmAnd showed the power lines.

I now chose the most simple approach by making line widths 0, colors 100% transparent and icons "empty". And just to be sure: only show them at the highest zoom level.
After all: that was less than 10 minutes work.

But a better option would be to use something like:
<renderingProperty attr="hidePowerTowerPoleLines" name="Hide power towers poles lines" description="Hide power towers, poles and lines"
type="boolean" possibleValues="" category="hide"/>

And then for the several options:
<case hidePowerTowerPoleLines="false">
   ..................... Show the power towers, poles, lines
</case>

In that case you can switch it on/off like you currently can do with borders, polygons, buildings, house numbers, icons, POI labels, etc.
So if you have set them to hide in your map settings, it will simply skip it in the above example.

Same for many other map objects.

Harry
