German umlauts are not displayed

For some time now I observe that Osmand+ does not show German umlauts in street names etc. E.g. ä, ö, ü are shown as a, o, u, resp. I'm using version 3.7.2 with Android 6.0.1

Now I found out, changing language setting (Beschriftungssprache) from German to "local names" solves the issue.

Yes you right, it happens because you select Map language: German + transliteration if German name is missing. You can keep Map language > German, but you need to turn off transliteration.

Isn't that odd? I know, sometimes different languages do have different names for the same city:

• German: Münich
• English: Munich
• Italian: Monaco

But in the case of OP, the language *was* already set to German.  Which *does* already provide the local names.
So how did we loose the umlaut here?

BTW, the second screenshot was not sent to the list. So I don't have all the information.
