Hello,  I'm new to Osmand, and have successfully installed the app (Android tablet), and downloaded the world overview map as well as 3 regional maps of China.  I am not yet in China, but would like to set some favourite points (e.g., my hotels) in Beijing, and also test some offline walking routes.  However, I can't find out how to tell OsmAnd to use my downloaded Beijing map!  It keeps trying to use my world overview map!!

On OsmAnd's map list screen, Beijing DOES show as having been downloaded as a standard map (vector), and as being active. I also tried entering an address, starting with the city Beijing, but OsmAnd returns error message "Can not find anything: 50 mi".  Which is true--apparently OsmAnd is using my present location on the worldview map, even though I have wifi turned off.

I would SO MUCH appreciate any help.  I'm not computer-illiterate, but so far OsmAnd is winning in what may turn out to be a knockout.

Thanks,  Susan

I just downloaded the Beijing map, so hopefully, I'm seeing what you're seeing.  So just as a sanity check, what happens when you zoom into central Beijing?  At the higher zoom levels, the map should resolve to streets, walkways and features.

If you're seeing those, keep the map there and search for your hotels using the looking glass icon.  Do they now come up?

Similarly, you should be able to make offline walking routes by specifying remote starting points.  More on that here:

I'm less clear on OsmAnd address searches, but this is a start.

My problem is that I can't get OsmAnd to show me my downloaded Beiing map.

<Perplexed> What happens if you download a regional map of where you are now.  Does that display?

Also keep in mind that address searches depend upon the address which
is requested having been entered into OpenStreetMap. If OpenStreetMap
does not (yet) contain the address, then OsmAnd will not find a
location.

The good news is that you can add missing addresses to OpenStreetMap
yourself, after which they will be available to OsmAnd to use for the
address search feature.

Aha, maybe that's my problem.  The instructions are very much less than complete.  I'll try it.

Thank you,  Susan

Hello, I'll try that but, honestly, I'm pretty fed up with all the time I've wasted so far.  My problem is that OsmAnd seems to want to make things look very easy, so they don't enter all the steps necessary to accomplish something.

Thank you for your response,  Susan
