Availability of OSMAnd+ maps for India - while in India

Good morning,

I am an Australian contributor to OSMAnd+.  My query is...can I download OSMAnd+ maps of India while I am in India?  Why?  Last year I was arrested at Kolkata Airport for having a Garmin 65S hand-held GPS in my posession.  I don't want to go through that hassle any more so it would be better for me to delete  the OSMAnd+ application and Indian maps from my Lenovo Tablet before entering India, re-install the app and maps in India and delete the lot again before exiting via the airport security.  Can I do this?

Hi,

I have been living in India for the last 4 years and on my non-indian as well as indian phone Osmand was regularly running, been updated and maps downloaded and used.

Never had any issues with it at the airport/customs.

I have heard though, that the issue with some of the Garmin devices is they communicate outside of India and some indian office did not issued an approval for it, applies to some of their watches I vaguely remember.

Hello, Neville!
On OsmAnd's side, there are no regional restrictions on downloads from any country. If you don't want to preinstall OsmAnd, you can download the maps to your tablet at home and, after installing OsmAnd later, import them into the app.
