In the latest OsmAnd version 3.3.3 I can't find option "Turn screen on", which I always set to 10 sec. I found it very useful and helpful in saving battery. It looks like this useful functionality was removed from the latest builds :(
Anyone see the same?
If it's still there, how to find it now?

Just noticed this exact issue with 3.3.6, using Android 9. "Turn screen on" was one of the best *stand out* features of OSMAND navigation. It both saves battery and unnecessary distraction while driving. I always showed of this capability to my friends.

I really hope it is reintroduced very soon.

Is there now a solution to this problem?  The battery saving achieved by automatic screen on for 10 seconds, then off, was a particularly useful feature of Osmand.
Thanks Paul W

Is there now a solution to the missing "Screen automatically On/Off" problem?
Thanks

Does this mean that the only way to regain Automatic "Screen-On-Off" is to downgrade to an older version on Osmand+?
If so, does anyone know if there is any hope that an updated version of Osmand+ will re-introduce this particularly useful battery-saving facility?
I'm using 3.3.8 on Android 7.0

Based upon the github discussion, that seems the only option at this
time.

That is a question that is likely better asked on the github issue
thread linked above. Plus, the more it is asked on the github thread,
the more feedback to the dev's that this feature was important.

If you view on github you have the repository Osmand  https://github.com/osmandapp/Osmand/   (the "master" branch)
The master branch is always the main branch. Other developments are often split off to "sub" branches. If you follow the branch below it: https://github.com/osmandapp/Osmand/tree/turn_screen_on_plugin, you can follow the developments on this "turn screen on plugin".

And I forgot to mention (as it is obvious for me looking at the branch). There is already a first pull request to the main branch.

Hi.
Thanks for the feedback.
Is the solution in the source you sent?  I am confused and cant see it.

Yes, the solution is in that code: ready or not.
One of the Devs is working on it. It is still  work in progress, but based on the fact that he wants to integrate the changes from his branch into the main branch, seems to me that he is "almost there".
Of course it needs testing. Note that every branch is a 100% copy of the main branch,  so you could technically download his repository, build it and test it.

The fact that Victor does not have it merged yet, might mean that the plugin is not mature enough yet.
Or maybe this plugin development  is ready, but the main team might be doing some big restructuring of or change in the main branch, so this specific development (branch) has to wait for the main branch to be finished.
The code of OsmAnd is huge and really complicated.

Harry - Thanks for that. As it might be nearly ready, I'll wait.  Probably better (for me) to cope without it for a few more days.  -  PW

Probably ready - merged 2 days ago.
Who know when we can except the official update of the apk in f-droid?

It does work just fine!
Congratulations and many, many thanks to the developers.
I have just one question about it.
In settings -> Navigation -> walking(e.g.)-> activate screen/time
what is the meaning of 'never'?
It looks like this means 'do not turn the screen off at all'
At least, when my phone was connected to the power supply in my car, the screen stayed on all the time with this setting.
Can anyone confirm that?
Thanks, Helmut

I suppose it means
'do not turn the screen ON at all' (if screen is off)

Is it really an option? Are you able to set it on or off?

In my walking profile I see blue title "Turn screen on" and black
description "Turn on device screen...". No way to enable or disable turn
behaviour.

Thanks.

If you set the 'time' to never you switch off this feature.

Just tried using this feature on a ride and the screen turned on just fine but it wouldn't turn off. Tried 10seconds, 5seconds and none (which deactivated). Also tried with proximity detection on and off. No luck, screen just wouldn't switch off again. Anyone else see this? Any suggestions?

IIRCyou have to set the duration you wish it to remain "On", eg 10 secs, then get moving and turn the screen off - (Presumably a brief touch of your device's physical On/Off button).
I'm very pleased to hear this excellent facility has returned, and am looking forward to testing it.  WIll feed-back later.

Hmmmm.....
Same problem as Andy.  ie I set to 10 seconds.  Screen turned on OK before turns but would not turn off except manually.
I've now set it to 5 secs, and done a device re-start.  Will try again tomorrow.

Automatic screen On/Off is still only partially working for me.
I.e. it turns On OK but does not turn Off automatically.  I've tried various settings.
It is just me?
Does anyone have a solution? (Using standard Osmand+ download)
I've currently got version 3.4.3, running on Android 7.
Thanks

There have been a couple of bug fix releases since the initial release, but I tried it on a ride today and still no joy.

I concur - I updated to OsmAnd+ 3.4.4 today.  Automatic "On" is working, but Automatic "Off" is not, despite an option for 5, seconds, 10 seconds, etc being available and selected.
Anyone managing to make it work please say how.
Thanks
Paul W.
