Customized navigation profile/Route engine for beginner

Hi,

I came from a programming background and just getting started with OSM, OSMAnd. I am thinking of creating a customized navigation type; for instance Dirtbike such that the navigation will closely resemble bicycle navigation but not going on to unmotorized paths. Appreciate very much if someone can shed some pointers on how to get started, such as reading references, code (or examples) on routing engine etc

Check out the sources and read routing.xml. Probably best to use the
stable branch for the series of osamnd you are using.

Beware that OSM itself may not have all the data you need, and that not
all tags in OSM are available in osmand. See OsmAndMapCreator for more
on that.
