Is it possible to change Theme/Skin in OsmAnd Android App?

The colors are to thick, dark and saturated.

If you want to make your own changes, then
https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/SomeoneElse/diary/391499 (which I
wrote last year) might help.

There are other sources of maps that can work within OsmAnd as well -
see some of the links from
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OsmAnd#Customizing_OsmAnd .

Andy

@Andy:

Thank you.
I had a look at the rendering configuration files.

I need only some changes to the default map style in "default.render.xml":

- Turn the beige color for urban houses areas into light grey
- turn orange color for main streets to yellow
- Make blue color for rivers and green color for forest a little bit more lighter

When I look now into default.render.xml file
where can I find the corresponding parameters/elements?

Is there a good (=with samples) tutorial for colorization changes?

Thank you
Claudia

Hello!
Unfortunately we don't have tutorial how to customize it. You can find all OsmAnd map styles here https://github.com/osmandapp/OsmAnd-resources/tree/master/rendering_styles. This is default, you can make copy and change color via text editor and then test is on device.

Hi Claudia,
if you mean the map colors, have you already tried the alternative map styles?
Just go to to Configure Map menu and select Map Style entry.

There are some choices available, maybe one of them is more suitable to your needs.

Kind regards,
Max

Hello Dmitry,

I cannot believe that there is really no guide on how to change the colors.
I appreciate OsmAnd very much and I want to avoid GooMaps but the colorization is ugly.
Less important elements of OsmAnd-maps are too (dark) colored.
This steals too much concentration.

So some little modifications would help a lot.

Is there really no table on a Wiki webpage which show the color element tag names in XML for the approx 20 map elements?
This couldn't be too difficult for the experience OsmAnd developers.

What make it for a sense to offer configuration through a config file like default.render.xml when no one knows how to configure it in detail?
Other software offer at this point even an advanced "Skin" or "Theme" Gallery with hundreds of customizations.

The given built-in Map Styles are not suitable for me.

Is there at least an official Feature Request email to the developers?

Thank you
Claudia

I couldn't find a simple one; that's why I wrote that OSM diary entry
that I mentioned earlier.

You could create one...

Everything happens because someone decides to do it.  In the case of
free or nearly-free software that's often because someone wants a
particular feature and decides to implement it themselves. Documentation
doesn't magically happen; someone has to write it.

I'm sure that anything that you write describing how you did something
would also be useful to other people too.

Best Regards,

Andy
