very slow map download speeds

I notice that the download speeds for maps are very low. They used to be much faster a couple of months ago. The world basemap for example takes about an hour. There is no problem with the internet here - other apps download at normal speeds. Is there anything I can do to speed up downloads ? I do not know how the downloads work - is there a way to choose a different mirror (if there are mirrors at all) ?

This is really slow.
I downloaded a map yesterday and it was much faster.

There are mirrors, load is automatically split.

I think an option to choose a mirror manually would be good. It looks as I am stuck with a sluggish or faulty mirror.
