Is there already an effort initiated to accomplish this task? If so how can I contribute?

I have experience with ubus and python but not much with django.

We are focusing on what is currently listed there and in the contributor's board.

Those are the areas which are of interests for the OpenWISP users, according to the feedback they leave through the website or in private.
