[GSoC'21] OpenWRT OpenWISP Monitoring

Greetings of the day,

This thread will be used for tracking weekly progress of OpenWRT OpenWISP Monitoring Package

May 18 - 21,2020:

List of tasks I have worked on:

Completed converting lua scripts into OpenWRT package at openwisp/openwrt-openwisp-monitoring#25.
- Added basic README file along with other default docs as per other OpenWISP modules.
- A basic daemon and init script for openwisp-monitoring package added.
[ci] Add Github CI Workflow #27 - In Progress
- GiTHub Workflow here. Will open a PR once Lua Tests is completed and test coverage is added.
Working on Lua Tests

Task I will be working on next week:

[openwrt] Store data temporarily if HTTP request is unsuccessful #29
Complete Lua Tests #26
- Adding Tests for WiFi and Modem Interfaces
[qa] Add quality assurance checks

Blockers:

Currently I don't have any modem interface (interface with proto as modemmanager) and I am not able to test it. Will try to find a solution soon.

We'll help you out with that, for the moment I suggest to look for good options for mocking calls in lua, so we can mock any call to OpenWRT libraries (we can give you the output samples for cases like this one).

[qa] Split netjson-monitoring and Format files using luacheck - In progress
[cleanup] Remove lua monitoring template - Needs Review
[openwrt] Convert into an OpenWRT package - In progress
- Make minor modifications in the init script
[enhancement] Temporarily store data - In progress
Researched about the bugs and ways for mocking tests as asked.

Tasks I will be working on next week:

[enhacement] Temporarily store data
- Fix errors currently with the script and mark the pull request for review
Complete PRs currently in review.
Start trying new methods for Lua Tests for Netjson Monitoring

Blockers:

There are no blockers currently in my way

Great progress Kapil!

Let's focus on getting the build running, compiling and generating the packages, that will make it easier for everyone to test it.
Then we can tackle lua code cleanup, qa checks and tests.

- I searched different methods use to mock calls and try some of those.

List of tasks I willl be looking into next week:

- Will search for best approach to do the task. As suggested on Gitter, I will try to go through other libraries and see how they approach the same situation Wrna
Search for ways to upload artifacts directly to Google Cloud

June 14 - June 18,2021

List of tasks I have worked on:

[qa] Add quality assurance checks - In Progress
- Make minor changes as asked in review or found
[ci] Send files to google cloud - Merged

[tests] Write Lua Tests - In Progress

- Created table structure in a file for mocking output and loading it for tests. I found all mocking libraries doing something similar behind the scenes.

List of tasks I will be looking into next week:

[tests] Write Lua Tests - Will try to add missing tests and move it to ready queue.
[enhancement] Temporarily store data - Will try to fix errors in checking for available memory.

I have spent some time today testing and reviewing your work Kapil, you should have enough pointers to move forward.

Please give priority to getting the PRs with splitting lua code and tests / QA checks ready for merge next week.

- Added missing tests for modem manager, wifi and interfaces. Will mark it for review after double check.

List of tasks I will be looking into next week:

[tests] Write Lua Tests - Add LuaCov for test coverage. May add some more tests if found necessary.
[bug] Data not sent successfully - Will test the package and ensure it is ready for production.
