M1 Mac users?

I recently got a M1 Mac to serve as my main dev machine. I got OpenVSP to build and run for the first time last night. There are plenty of hurdles yet to overcome, but it is showing progress.

How many M1 users do we have out there? How would you categorize yourself?

1) Wintel 4EVA. What is an M1?

2) Apple Intel user, no expected upgrade.

3) Apple M1 user, what is taking so long?

4) Apple user, waiting for M1 native OpenVSP to upgrade.

5) Wintel user, M1 native OpenVSP may cause me to convert my hardware, OS, and religion.

Something else?

Let me know.

Got an M2 Mac and can use the vsp gui (via Rosetta) but can't use the python API sadly

Thanks for chiming in.

The VSP has to be compiled to the same Python you're using -- so if you're using x86 VSP via rosetta, you will also need to run x86 Python the same way...

AngelScript is the one thing that is keeping M1 OpenVSP from going native -- everything else seems to work great.  I'm hoping to get some time to put towards this issue soon.

You're only the second person to speak up - so it clearly isn't hurting a ton of folks.

Thanks for the information though, I managed to create a x86 python environment alongside the arm64 one and can switch between them.

Great!  Glad to hear that worked for you.

If you don't need advanced links, custom components, and vspscript scripting capability (all based on AngelScript), you can compile a copy yourself and work with it as a native M1 app (that talks to native Python).

Not sure that is a win, but it is an option.

I'm not sure if I need these.. I'm using openvsp together with suave (https://suave.stanford.edu/index.html) and suave uses the python API to export a vsp3 file (I think? Not sure if anything other than import/ export requires openvsp)

Besides that I'm not sure if I would know how to compile it myself, the instructions in the readme.md are only for Linux and Windows I think.

I'd suggest you work with what is working.  Everything should work with your Rosetta solution.

Hopefully we'll have a native version soonish.
