VFX Reference Platform - OneTBB support?

Hi,

The VFX Reference Platform Working Group will be posting the Draft CY2024 platform soon and it will include a move from TBB to OneTBB. Does OpenSubdiv support OneTBB? If not, is it possible to have a release that does before September 1st?

OneTBB replaced TBB a couple of years ago so a move to OneTBB is overdue for the community.

Decent documentation on moving to OneTBB is available, and the OneTBB team has offered to contribute to porting efforts so I'm happy to make an introduction if that would be beneficial.

Hi Nick,

OpenSubdiv does not currently support OneTBB, but we do plan to have a release of OpenSubdiv later this year which will address the remaining concerns and will support OneTBB.

We haven't committed to a release date yet, but the Draft CY2024 VFX platform is a target for that release and we will take that into account for our planning and scheduling.

Thank you David, that's good to hear. The VFX Reference Platform does require that versions are released by September 1st for inclusion in CY2023. However, the Working Group will consider extension requests until as late as 1st November if that presents a problem.

Are you able to share whether you expect to release by September 1st, and what the version number would be so that we can include that in the published Draft?

I think we can accommodate those restrictions.

Our proposal is to include OpenSubdiv 3.6.x in the Draft CY2024 VFX Reference Platform contingent on making the agreed upon release date.

At the moment September 1st seems reasonable, and we'd like to avoid running up against the tight deadlines we had last year, but what are the parameters for requesting an extension if it becomes necessary?
