I don't see any activity on GitHub since 2 years ago. Has this moved elsewhere or is there no active development anymore?

We had a contract lapse and are in the process of reviving things. The code has a lot of deprecated dependencies and has a complex Angular 2 migration ahead of it, complicated by the use of Google Closure Compiler. We are working on it though!

My understanding is that further development at CACI stopped supporting open source efforts (or at least this one). I'm not sure if ownership was transferred to another group or not. I no longer work at CACI, but you could reach out to them directly for further info. My guess is that it has likely diverged with various contracts lapsing and being picked up by other groups.

Based on massive improvements to browser APIs since I last worked on this project, I would be hesitant to base a product on OpenSphere without heavily investing in upgrading its core libraries (OpenLayers and Cesium) and its data storage implementations (most of them are in-memory or a heavy bastardization of IndexedDB). AngularJS, while certainly old, would be less of a concern than getting off of the Google Closure Compiler (for typescript/wasm) IMO. Given the opportunity, I would pick Svelte, Vue, or Preact (in that order) as an upgrade target for the UI; and there are lots of opportunities to more effectively decouple the UI from the data layers along the way.

If that sounds almost like a rewrite, you aren't wrong. There are definitely some good pieces of OpenSphere which could be split out into their own packages or at the very least reused.
