All,
Recently there was a question about OpenROAD being certified for Windows 2016. The response; from Cristian Ianculovici; was that only the 64-bit version of OpenROAD has been certified for use on Windows 2016. I have a few follow-up questions:
· Will our existing OpenROAD 6.2 images (built on Windows7 32-bit) run on Windows 2016 using the 64-bit version of OpenROAD?
· We currently install Ingres/Net (32-bit) before installing OpenROAD. Which bit-version will we need to install to use OpenROAD 64-bit?
· We currently have a number of MS Word and Excel macros which make use of ODBC to connect to our database. If we have to change to the 64-bit version of Ingres/Net, will these still work? Also for our existing 32-bit VB/C# .Net applications which use the Ingres .Net Data Provider; will these require any changing / re-building?
Many thanks in advance for replies.

Hi Martin,
Here are the answers to your questions:
Q: Will our existing OpenROAD 6.2 images (built on Windows7 32-bit) run on Windows 2016 using the 64-bit version of OpenROAD?
A: Well, it depends. The images are binary compatible, so the 4GL components will work.
But if you are using 3GL procedures (in DLLs) and External Class Libraries, they will require to be 64-bit versions as well.
Q: We currently install Ingres/Net (32-bit) before installing OpenROAD. Which bit-version will we need to install to use OpenROAD 64-bit?
A: Exactly, 64-bit OpenROAD installs into a 64-bit Ingres installation.
Q: We currently have a number of MS Word and Excel macros which make use of ODBC to connect to our database. If we have to change to the 64-bit version of Ingres/Net, will these still work? Also for our existing 32-bit VB/C# .Net applications which
use the Ingres .Net Data Provider; will these require any changing / re-building?
A: Using a 64-bit ODBC
DataSource should work
for the ODBC connection – but you might have to use a 64-bit Excel/Word.
The .NET applications might have to be rebuilt in 64-bit mode (if they had been built specifically for 32-bit) –
AFAIK, the Ingres .NET
Data Provider supports both 32-bit and 64-bit.
HTH.
Best regards,
Bodo.
