Initial Set Up and Allocating RAM

Hello,

It has been over a year and a half since I last used OpenRefine and need some help.

First of all, I am working at a new institution and am trying to implement OpenRefine in our workflow. I am using a Windows computer, but am having issues getting the program to start. Java is up to date and I was able to download the .zip files, but when I try to open the program, the internet (Google Chrome) gives me the "death folder" and a blank screen.

Secondly, I remember needing to allocate more RAM in (I believe) command line. Can someone direct me to or share instructions on how to do this?

Go to the refine.ini file and change the following params

# Memory and max form size allocations
#REFINE_MAX_FORM_CONTENT_SIZE=1048576
REFINE_MEMORY=1400M

# Set initial java heap space (default: 256M) for better performance with large datasets
REFINE_MIN_MEMORY=1400M

Hi,

With the java embedded version of openrefine 3.4.1, do you need to download anything else related to java to allow it to use the additional RAM? Or will updating the .ini files suffice?

If I understand your query correctly then the following command may help (what i use to start OR 3.4.1)

./refine -i 0.0.0.0 -m 4000M -d /home/psm/.local/share/openrefine/3.4/

-m memory you want to allocate

-d workspace directory to use by OR 3.4.1

Just updating the ini file and restarting the service should be good enough
