So, it turns out that every day is a school day. RDM did undertake an upgrade on Saturday morning, and the site was down for a short period in the morning as a result.
Our explanation up to now has been 'this doesn't affect data feeds', but Saturday proved us a little wrong on that score. For some technical reasons that my brain is too small to comprehend, when the RDM site is down, Darwin push-port in JSON, AVRO and XML formats are paused. All the pushport data is held and then published when RDM is back on line, so nothing is lost. This is specific to Darwin pushport right now because of the method of connection. So my apologies once again for any inconvenience or confusion that this caused.
It also raises a question about notification about planned maintenance which we will work on over the next few weeks. Clearly Darwin users need to be informed more clearly, and we will also look at how / whether we do more general notifications (without clogging everyone's inbox).
FYI, next planned maintenance will be toward the end of October (precise date tbc), with a release to allow the publication of the rail customer experience dashboard on RDM. You heard it here first.
Apologies again.
