Good Morning All,

I noticed that in one of the latest versions of OQ, there seems to be an issue with the smoothed_seismicity.py script.

Specifically, the format of the "observed count" in row_dict (within the write_to_csv function) should be modified. Currently, observed_count is saved as an integer, but it should be stored as a decimal number.

Saving it as a decimal allows comparing the Smoothing Total Rate. If it's stored as an integer, the sum of observed counts will be zero, whereasthe sum of smoothed rates across the grid will be non-zero — leading to inconsistencies.

Thanks
Erika

Thanks, Erika. FYI, we no longer use this code to build our models (we use the mbtk). It’s just kept there for legacy issues. Having said that, you’re welcome to submit a PR if you feel the code can be somehow improved.
