Hello,

I am performing analyses using OpenQuake version 3.24.1. In the analysis, I carry out a deterministic scenario using the Kotha et al. (2020) GMPE and the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake. The fault geometry used in the analysis is shown in the figure below.

I performed the analysis for two sites: one site is located directly on the fault trace (marked with a red flag), and the other site is located approximately 5–6 km away from the fault (marked with a purple flag). After obtaining the results, I plotted the response spectra and compared them with the Turkish Building Earthquake Code (TBDY) spectra. However, despite the relatively small distance between the two sites, I observed a very large difference between the results, which I find difficult to interpret.

In the Excel plots, the red spectrum corresponds to the site located on the fault, while the purple spectrum corresponds to the site located approximately 5–6 km away from the fault. I would greatly appreciate any comments or explanations that could help clarify the reason for this significant difference.  “All analyses were performed assuming a uniform site condition with Vs30 = 760 m/s.

Thanks..

You can check this with a trellis plot i.e. a plot showing the scaling of ground motion Vs distance for a given magnitude.
