Hello everyone!
I have just completed a SMT OpenPNP machine. I have a problem about controling and contacting Yamaha feeder with software OpenPNP.
Can I use Adruino to control Yamaha feeder? I don't know code. Please help me how to use or write it. If you have source or introduction, please give them to me. Thank you so much!

Which Open PnP controller are you using ? Smoothieboard or ??
You need to give vmore details...

For my cl clones (non-pneumatic) i made busbar with this parameters:

S = 16.5mm
B = 120mm
C = 15.7mm

Thank you Jim ,
I thot Yamaha CL feeders they are all pneumatic ?
You say Clone - not pneumatic - how do they look - can you share a link or photo?
Port might be the same? for all CL variations? Do you know?
Thanks again,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I have 2 CL pneumatic feeders to help me with the design of my pnp. They are clones from aliexpress.
A is 80mm ,right pin is for guide only and left pin is guide and also air intake
B is 68mm but be aware that pick position is not at the top, is approx. 4.5mm under the top of the feeder where you drew B dimension
C is 310mm with some approximation
Don't know other dimensions as I do not have a mounting block, I have to design one and I did not reached that stage yet.
Afaik, CL=pneumatic, but I'm not expert so I may be wrong.

Yes, cl is pneumatic but i have electric versions and busbar might be the same but without pneumatic stuff.

Here is a simple cad file i made.

Hio,
Thanks for the file - they look very similar - CL pneumatic seams to be larger...

Hey Mike, do not forget to design a canal for the strips so that they are going down to floor.
Some stripes roll up again stubbornly and most want to go through the feeder again -)

Good point Jim, tape is coming out on bottom side in front of busbar plate -correct ?
Acualy I am missing dimension -feeder to feeder - I think it is 16.50 mm (or hole to hole on bussbar) and how much space is needed in front of feeder to PnP table - lets say from front pin to front nosse of the feeder (apx. min)?

Hi Mike,

Pneumatic, I have 2 pcs, one 8*2 and one 8*4mm, both purchased from here:

The front holes are for a center pin on the feeder.
The back hole is for a mounting pin with a side hole, which takes the
pneumatic pressure.
The screws are just to hold the metal plate, which holds the Y seals
for the pneumatic.
I don't think that the back pin location is critical and the pick location
is more or less directly above the front pin.
My 21 slot mount from Robtotdigg has a single long metal plate, this one
seems to be separated into sections, therefor it has 2 screws in some
locations, but the concept is the same.
I think the feeder slot spacing is 16mm, but it could also be 16.5mm
as mentioned earlier.
The 8mm feeder fit perfectly into each slot.
The 12 and 16mm feeder are too wide and can only be inserted into every
second slot.
This is why you see empty center holes between the left feeders.
On my own machine I don't even have pneumatic connected to every location,
since I only have a few 8mm CL feeders and most are 12/16mm.
The same hole setup can be used to mount a vibration feeder for tubes.
In that case the pneumatic isn't needed either.

Hi Mike,

My 8mm-feeders are 16mm wide, so 16.5mm is ok for easy takeout / reel changing.

For the "canal" i designed 65mm from front pin to wall - next time i would make 70mm - see here:

canal.JPG

And i do need to add some alu-sheets to prevent stripes going around, because sometimes they could get cumbersome:

Hi Jim, how much have you paid for this electric CL? I see them for near $230, expensive a bit.

Hi Marek, i do not want to start a price war here and therefore I will not call numbers, but you have to negotiate friendly as always.

Compared to the pneumatic ones, these are really comfortable - easy to install and to control.
You can switch on the 8mm feeders between 2mm and 4mm pitch immediately, on the 16mm feeders are 3 levels selectable.

We have done this afternoon about 20k parts and busbar serves as a heat sink and remained at about 39°C at - that's ok.
Only these bad cheap 7" reels from this thin plastic get on my nerves, had to change a reel today, because it has dissolved in the feeder.

I only wanted to know are they really so expensive comparing to pneumatic version. Pneumatic I paid ~$45, so the difference is huge even after netiation - if starting from $230.
Technical comfort is obvious.

Nice Jim..
My old mechanic feeders are 20mm bright- If I go with Yamaha this would let me have some more feeders as this are 16mm apart...

Hey Mike, have same problem - with new head (88mm wide, quattro) i reach from 29 slots only 25 with all nozzles.

So, i'm thinking about a completely new machine because i made a BIG mistake last year when it was designed: can not go with topcam over slot -> it costs valuable time when starting new project and need to fine tune pickup position & height with a separate webcam as magnifier :-(

Hi Jim,
I realy do not remember how many changis I made to get to where I AM today.. With tween head there is enough of worries, so quadro is doble as much... I dont need so many but its a chalange!
Look here; https://www.smallsmt.biz/visionplacer-vp-3000d/ - head design sketches.. not bad for a table top mashine....

Lets stay with the subject Yamaha CL - some good instructions here:  https://www.smallsmt.biz/cl-feeder/

Does anyone use electronically controlled Yamaha feeders?
Maybe someone knows what communication protocol is used? Thanks.
