Hi there,

today I installed OpenPnP and do exactly all steps as described in the chapter: Your First Job.
I went to the file menu -> selected: Open Job -> samples directory -> pnp-test directory -> opened the pnp-test.job.xml file

But nothing happens.

In point 5 of the description: "You'll see the job has loaded and there are now boards and placements listed. You can browse the boards and placements to see what the job will be doing."
No, I see nothing

Then I press the green power button and press the green play button
-> Then comes a error message: Job Error (see attached picture)

Fehlermeldung Job Error.png

And if I press the stop button and the then the play button again I get following error message

Errormessage.png

What I am doning wrong???
A friend of mine tried it, too. But the same result.

Please help me.

Thank you all

Hi,

First thing, it looks like your window divider is set so you can't see any boards. Look at the attached image, grab the divider with your mouse and move it down so you can see boards. Then you can select a board and you will see placements.

Let's start with that, and let me know if you see boards and placements, and we'll go from there.

Are you using "Stable" or "Latest" from http://openpnp.org/downloads/?

My guess is that maybe you are double clicking the Play button, possibly? Try just single clicking.

If that's not it, stop OpenPnP, delete your configuration directory, and try again. It's possible there is something wrong with the config.

Hi Jason,

I don`t know what I am doing wrong.

I use the "Stable" Version.
And I only click one time. After opening the job, I press the green power button, I press the home button, click on a board and press the play button.
I tried all combination of it, the result is -> Job error

Now I tried your proposal to delete my configutation directory ( see picture)

Errormessage 3.png

Here you can see I delete machine.xmlparts.xml and packages.xml
As described at GitHub and I deleted all files in the log directory.

Then I started OpenPnP again and made the same procedure -> same result -> job error

Now 5 friend of me tried it and all the same. Are we all monkeys?

Hi Marc,

Try "Latest" version and see if that helps. I will test "Stable" tonight and see if I can reproduce this error.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

no "Latest" is the same problem.
If it helps I could make a screen video how I install OpenPnP and go through all steps

Thanks,
Jason

Quick note: I just installed both Stable and Latest on my Windows 10 machine, deleted my .openpnp directory (C:\Users\jason\.openpnp) and ran the pnp-test job from the samples directly. Both seemed to work as expected.

So, if one of you experiencing this can record a screencapture that might help shed some light.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi,

I deleted the C:\Users\steve\.openpnp directory then started OpenPNP.

At this point the log states:

pnpLog1.JPG

I then go to file and open job loading in pnp-test.job.xml. This does not seem to do anything screenshot below

pnpScreenGrab.JPG

At this point I was expecting to see a board/ placements.

If I add an existing board using the + button I can then see placements, but attempting to run produces a Job Error

Running as administrator works !  Job runs and I can see it working in the camera view

Mind you I still don't see anything under boards is that correct ?

Your hiding the board information.

Drag the separator just above Pick and Place down to show the board

Then be sure the select the board in the job

After that the PnP window will fill up

Ah, I think I see what must be happening. You are loading the pnp-test from a protected area, so when OpenPnP tries to save the job as it progresses, it fails, and for some reason there's not a good error message. When you ran as administrator it was able to save that file, so no error. I'll file a bug on this.

Marc, this should work for you too. Either run as Administrator or copy the pnp-test files to a non-protected area and load them from there.

Thanks,
Jason

Thank you.

Hi, i had this error yesterday , the work around is to move the test file or the sample folder to your desktop or libraries and then open it from that location, its a window Folder security issue.

hope that will help you

I just installed (12/2/2019 0700) the stable branch, same problem:
1: The samples need to be placed in Documents/Openphp/sample  (a directory the user can write to)
2: The application needs to go to FULL screen when it starts, that will allow the windows to expand
3: Errors are not being logged - with the current default setup the files in samples are in the C:/Program Files/openpnp/samples which is read only except to the administrator, when the write error happens nothing is logged.

My first experience was not good, 10 minutes to download and install then 30 minutes trying to figure out what was going on. I figured out you install a JRE, but lack of the true error message is a time eater.
