Hello,
I'm looking for some help figuring out a issue I'm having with my Liteplacer and the strip feeder "Auto Setup" feature.  Most of the time, when I try to use the auto setup feature, I am able to get past the "click the center of the first part" step, but when I get to the "click the center of the second part" it fails and says "Timed out waiting for move to complete."

With normal 8mm wide, 4mm pitch tape I can usually be successful with the this setup but with wider tapes it always fails.

Von Nieda tried to help me out and believes this to be an issue with the TinyG.

If you have any advice, please help!

Thank You!

Here are some specs:
Machine: Liteplacer
OpenPnp Version: 2021-01-05_05-21-56
System OS: Ubuntu LTS

Hi Stephen

TinyG is really the "exotic beast" among the controllers. It is missing crucial commands, it has been problematic from the start:

https://github.com/openpnp/openpnp/wiki/TinyG#quirks

It required some special "hacks" to get it working. But these hacks will prevent efficient operation. That's why I made a new firmware to add the missing commands:

https://makr.zone/tinyg-new-g-code-commands-for-openpnp-use/577/

OPTION 1:

If you upgrade to my firmware, and then use the Issues & Solutions system to propose required new settings in OpenPnP, you will be able to use many new features of the Advanced Motion Control with OpenPnP, such as nice Jerk control:

The setup should be pretty much automatic, guided by this:

https://github.com/openpnp/openpnp/wiki/Issues-and-Solutions

And we have TinyG experts here on the list that have already made the transition, so I know it works.

OPTION 2:

I also "sort of" promised, that the OpenPnP Advanced Motion Control upgrade will not break existing machines. It seems this is not the case here. Sorry.

I see there might be a problem with extra Machine Coordination by Actuators. I'm not sure this will help:

  1. Go to the light actuator.
  2. Switch off all Machine Coordination:
  3. Try again.
  4. If this works, please report back.
  5. If this works, also switch off the Machine Coordination for all the other actuators in your machine now and in the future.

Thanks Mark for the detailed response.  I have a a bunch of boards to assemble this week and since everything else is working, I'll wait until after before flashing the new firmware on the TinyG.  I'll let you know how it goes when I get a chance to do it.
