Hello Team

I have just created one drag feeder, it works very well.
It was developed base on Mica feeder before and easier for implementation.
I hope it is useful for many people

Thank you
Thang

Hello Pham,

This one it's metallic ?
Could you please share drawing as well ? I can't understand from this image about low side levers.

Br,
Daniel

Very nice Thang!
What are your plans with these? Will you provide kits, or sell complete feeders in the future?

Regards,
Niels.

As always, I’d love to see some details of how it works. Is there tape pulling to advance the tape? How is the tape being supported in the metal channel?

Thank you

I will do some testing before publish the manual, then you can do it yourself.
I am also considering about export the Mica feeder kit, Drag feeder, worm gear etc..

Thank you

Hi John

Thank you for your interesting

This type of drag feeder works really good for 4mm step, but it isn't enough.
For the large part with large step ( 8mm, 12mm, 16mm etc..), it is not compatible with current software.
It means the current open PNP have only one time for drag.

If someone can improve the drag feeder with several times for drag to feed the large component, i willing to publish the manual for this.

You have to do individual drag movement commands in the actuator.
Unfortunately you have to have everything on the same gcode controller.
In your case it is just the XY movements, since you don't have a drag pin to actuate.
This is basicly how it works:
OpenPnP moves the drag actuator to the start position, then it enables the drag pin actuator with the following GCODE
{True: G91} ; use relative coordinates
{True: G01 X-10 F1000} ; move 10mm to the left at low speed to push the lever
{True: G01 X10 F1000} ; move 10mm back to the original position to release the lever and return to original position
{True: G01 X-10 F1000} ; repeat for another 4mm tape movement
{True: G01 X10 F1000}
{True: G90} ; switch back to absolute coordinates
M400 ; wait until all movements are complete
Now OpenPnP thinks the drag pin is down and wants to drag, which isn't required anymore, so just configure the feed end location to the identic to the start position.
OpenPnP now disables the drag pin, which just issues an M400 in my example.
If you have an actual drag pin to move, then those commands need to be inserted as well and the movements need to be tuned as well.
In that case however the drag pin has to be connected to the same axis controller as the X and Y axis.

I wonder if maybe you linked to the wrong video? That video show it working (which is beautiful, btw) but does not actually describe how it works? I have been hoping you would explain exactly how it works and walk through how it functions, and/or perhaps a tear down. Would that be possible?

Hi all

Sorry about my late responding, but i take long time to put it under evaluation. So now it is OK to use.
Attached the STEP File of simple Drag feeder and Video to describe how it works.

Thank you
Thang

Thank you. Starting the engine? Mechanical press?

Hi Thang,

You really have a talent for designing the mechanicals and have come up with a very easy to make feeder here.  Great stuff!

I like the way you have placed the feed spring to both allow ratchet in the arming stroke and then feed on return.

Am I correct the peel motor runs whilst the actuator arm is displaced?  (Or more correctly whilst the NC micro switch contacts are closed.)

As a general concept, if the cover tape can be peeled after the carrier tape feed action there is far less chance of spilling parts.

Whilst it would add some minor complexity to an otherwise elegantly simple design, it is something I would think worthwhile as an enhancement.

Because the actual feed is done on the ‘release’ stroke, the ‘arm’ (head push) stroke could be used to trigger the peel motor in reverse initially to provide a little slack in the cover tape for the impending return feed.  As the switch contacts open again on the ‘release’ stroke the peel motor could then uncover the part in the pick position.  The electronics to do this could also allow fine tuning of the peel operation.

There is a lot going for this kind of feeder compared to the head mounted solenoid pin dragging tape.

1)    - No chance of damaging the drag pin if there is a malfunction (human or otherwise)

2)    -  Less chance of losing X,Y head steps if there is a snag in the feed tape. (The feed spring does the work on return)

3)    -There is no requirement for the push mast to be on a ‘nozzle’ like other drag feed arrangements

4)    - A push mast could be head mounted between two nozzles allowing picking two parts / placing two parts per cycle to speed up CPH

Keep up the good work Thang!

Cheers,

Ron

Hi Ron

Thank you for your interesting.

Yes, i use normally Open, When the arm displaced, the tape peeling motor will be triggered.
The function of peeling motor is stretch tape cover and holding the carrier tape
You can tuning the force of peeling spring so that when the peeling motor running, carrier tape still holding, it means the carrier tape only move by feeding arm.

Thank you
Thang

pham thang hi. Tell me how in here keeps the tape with the components? Can you post the model of the feeder as shown in the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgxsBpV5TGs ? Thank You.

Thanks for your interest. This feeder is first one and still under evaluation.
Current, i don't have final design for this. Maybe after couple weeks.
