Upcoming professional development hosted by Open Oregon Educational Resources

• Sponsored Membership in the Open Education Association. Sign up by January 2, 2026.
• Copyright for Complete Beginners. Join Copyright First Responders for an explanation of copyright and open licenses. We’ll assume that you have no prior knowledge and start from scratch. Bring your questions! January 14, 12-1.
• Equity and Open Education Faculty Cohort Registration for Winter 2026. Join a statewide 2-part Equity and Open Education Faculty Cohort! Participants will earn a $200 stipend upon completion of “Part 1 – Explore” and will have the option to earn an additional $300 stipend in “Part 2 – Implement.” Register by January 16, 2026.
• Making Accessible OER: Practical Strategies for Educators (90 minute webinar). Abbey Elder will introduce Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, best practices for creating and adapting accessible OER, and tips for making sure that all your course materials are usable for all students on the first day of class. January 22, 10:30-12.
• Modifying and Creating OER Workshop. Are you an instructor who wants nuts-and-bolts help creating or adapting open educational resources (OER)? Register for a workshop taking place January 26, 2026, 12-1 Pacific to get started. After the workshop, you’ll receive a stipend if you practice modifying or creating OER and send us a link to your work. 
• Register for a Virtual OER Review Workshop taking place on one of three dates: February 2 – 2-3 p.m.; February 3 – 5-6 p.m.; or February 6 – 12-1 p.m. After the workshop, you’ll receive a $200-$300 stipend for writing a review of an open educational resource.
• Building Inclusive Classrooms: Modeling Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Future Teachers. Anne Grey explores how curriculum, activities, and assessments with an open education lens can support diverse learners. February 18, 12-1.
• Working toward Accessibility for OER Collections (90 minute webinar). Representatives of three OER publishing programs consider what the upcoming federal accessibility requirements mean for people who manage OER collections. February 23, 11:30-1.
• OER Course Redesign Training: Open Ed Week Sprint Registration Deadline. Redesign your course with OER in a one-week sprint and earn a $750 stipend! Register by February 23.

Calls for proposals in the open education field

• The 2026 Library Publishing Forum, taking place in Seattle and remotely June 17-18, is accepting conference proposals and scholarship applications, due January 5.
• The call for proposals is open for 15-minute lightning talks at the Language OER Conference, hosted by the University of Kansas and taking place virtually on March 7. Proposals are due January 5.
• The call for proposals is open for the Northeast OER Summit, taking place virtually March 25-26. Proposals are due January 5.
• Lightning talk and poster proposal submissions are open for Open Education Talks 2026. Talks take place virtually every Wednesday in March from 11-12:30 Pacific. Proposals are due January 9. 
• The DOERS Innovation Workgroup seeks abstracts for a forthcoming AI + OER Case Studies Anthology. Submissions are due January 31.
• Case Studies in Library Publishing seeks abstracts by January 31. 
• The call for proposals is open for the Florida OER Summit, taking place virtually May 20-21. Proposals are due February 6.
• The call for proposals is open for All Things Open Week 2026, taking place virtually April 6-9. Proposals are due February 6.

Happy New Year! Thanks so much for sharing these great updates. It’s wonderful to see the tangible impact of OER across Oregon institutions, congratulations to Julia Stone and Holly Gabriel on getting those stories out there.

I also appreciate the comprehensive list of upcoming professional development opportunities, events, and calls for proposals. There’s so much exciting work happening in the open education community, and this is a fantastic snapshot of ways to get involved.
