Dear All:Ā
šŸŒ Open Source at COP: A Major Breakthrough in National Climate Commitments
At this year’s COP, we’re thrilled to announce a major milestone  — Türkiye will present its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)Ā and climate commitments built using open-source tools.
This marks one of the first times a leading economy is showcasing its national climate strategy using open and transparent modelling frameworks. It’s a moment that demonstrates what’s possible when open science meets real policy.
Türkiye is not alone. Several other countries — including Uganda, Cyprus, Ecuador, and Botswana — will also be present either results or their progress, sharing their journeys using open-source tools for energy and climate planning. In addition, new open-source finance toolsĀ are being showcased, alongside universities establishing dedicated modelling unitsĀ to sustain this progress at these events.
What makes this effort special is howĀ it’s been done: in many instances we’ve been building capacity within governments, rather than doing the modelling for them. Some country teams needed no help, some are now fully independent; others are in transition — but all are moving towards open, country-led climate modelling. Its a longer-term play, but one more likely to result in self-sustaining impact.

Please do pass this onto folk who you are connected to who may be at the COP and would like to see first-hand the impact of open-source modelling in policy development. Conscious that there are many tools in this community, so do feel free to caveat forwarding this on with "this is just an example of how open source can be useful ..."

I would be massively grateful if you could share these sessions widely — especially with:
  • PhilanthropiesĀ interested in in-country capacity building,
  • Technical assistance programmesĀ aiming to scale open tools, and
  • Country teamsĀ working on NDCs, particularly in emerging economies.
Global progress through openness, collaboration, and trust is a goal that we all share, and our team is humbled and happy to be in this large Open-Mod community.Ā
