Hi all,

I want to quickly pitch PLOS ONE as an alternative target journal for some of your energy system modelling research.

PLOS ONE is an indexed multidisciplinary open access journal by the non-profit publisher Public Library of Science (current IF 3.75). It has a dedicated category for energy and power research!

With an open-access fee of <$2000 it is slightly more affordable than common alternatives. Sometimes the review process is even published.

https://journals.plos.org/plosone

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/browse/energy_and_power

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PLOS_One

There are already a few examples of members of this community publishing in PLOS ONE:

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0173820
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0227368
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0236958
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0180611
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0281380

Does anyone have an opinion about PLOS ONE or experience to share?

Best wishes,

Fabian

Hi Fabian, Hi all,

I also had the chance to publish on PLOS ONE energy related research, using Calliope: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article/comments?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0259876

I have to say I would definitely recommend the experience, the review process has been one of the most accurate and thorough I have been through, extreme attention to details and quality.

In addition, the openness of the code and of the results was considered a big plus in the evaluation of the work.

The only black spot, but this is for Italy-based researchers only, the journal is considered “out of field” in the national evaluation of the research, for engineering related research fields. But of course, this issue is not related to the journal itself.

Best,

Nicolò

I recently joined PLOS Climate as an Academic Editor and would encourage submissions from energy system modelling groups to the PLOS Climate journal.  Note that there are also some interesting special issue calls currently out that cross over the PLOS family of journals.

PLOS has a very progressive perspective on open science, and offers reduced APCs for those from developing countries.

Let me know if you have any questions.
