Lab Equipment Module

Hi Product Committee,

The Equipment/Asset Management features were discussed at the July 31, 2018 Product Committee (notes). Today I was able to meet with Albertho Chengula, a subject matter expert in the Lab Equipment Module (LEM) that is built into the eLMIS Tanzania implementation. It was built in 2015 and has not yet been rolled out into production, but I think there is a lot we can learn as a community as we consider the roadmap in this area.

Hi Brandon and team,

Sorry I missed the last product committee meeting, but I reviewed the meeting notes. It appears there is discussion on some kind of asset management module. We have implemented an Asset Management System, mainly targeting costly electro-mechanical equipment and office equipment/assets - to be monitored at health facilities around Bangladesh. It has been piloted to a few district hospitals and expected to be rolled out to more sites when fund is available (or possibly mTAPS project starts).

Although our technology stack is LAMP, if the team want to know more about the tool, I would be happy to give an overview of what has been developed.

Yes, I believe the OpenLMIS community would be interested to get an overview of what you have developed.

 

“Asset Management” was the official topic at the Product Committee, but Lab Equipment Management is the priority for stakeholders in Tanzania. There is some overlap but some very different needs:

 

Asset Management

• Ability to track any kind of equipment, log repair/maintenance history, service contracts, track functionality status over time, notifications and reports/visibility of non-functional equipment

Lab Equipment Management

• Use functionality status of equipment to adjust Requisitions for lab re-agent ordering

Cold Chain Equipment Management

• Fridge real-time temperature monitoring, use visibility into fridge status when planning shipments/distributions
