All,

Together with the openHAB 1.7 release (see https://groups.google.com/d/msg/openhab/hRiNo-BGn9M/M7pw32An6dsJ), we would like to release an alpha 2 for openHAB 2 (https://github.com/openhab/openhab2/milestones/2.0.0%20alpha2) on May 25 as well.
As the compatibility tests are still below an 80% coverage, we think it is still too early to move to a beta stage already. I would therefore encourage all of you again to help testing the compatibility with the 1.x add-ons, which should have a priority over migrating binding code to 2.x as this will mean duplicate code maintenance for quite some while.

The timeline for 2.0 alpha 2 is identical as for openHAB 1.7:

* April 19th - last PR creation. After that date only Bugfixes will be accepted
* May 4th - first feature complete Release Candidate (we will see how many candidates we will follow)
* May 25th - Release

I will do my best to review all open PRs and provide feedback. I cannot promise that all of them get merged on time as many require deeper architectural discussions and possibly even changes within Eclipse SmartHome.

Some of my main goals for alpha 2 are to include HABmin, to switch to Apache Karaf as a container and to have a remote add-on repository - let’s hope that we will succeed!

Best regards,
Kai

All,

The original plan mentioned a release candidate for today. I'd just like to update you as I have decided against it, since there are still quite many open PRs (see https://github.com/openhab/openhab2/milestones/2.0.0%20alpha2) that still need to be merged - some because I still have to do the review, others because they are waiting for the contributor to incorporate my review comments. As we are talking about an alpha release for openHAB 2 anyhow, I don't think a dedicated RC is that important - feel free to do testing on the current snapshot at any time!

Best regards,
Kai

P.S.: You might have seen that there is an openHAB 1.7.0RC1 - thanks to Thomas for preparing this!

All,

I have done many updates to the openHAB 2 packages and did a lot of testing myself. The latest build #181, I would consider a release candidate (despite 3 new bindings that still need to be merged).
Before the release on Monday, I would therefore like to ask you to do some testing of this build as well. There are three packages:

1. "runtime": The plain runtime distribution without any addons or configuration files.
2. "addons": All new 2.0 bindings and additionally all compatible 1.x bindings (including default configuration files (what used to be in openhab.cfg) in a cfg file)
3. "demo": A prepackaged runtime with demo configuration and a few selected addons - this should be a package that works out-of-the-box.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Thanks,
Kai

Hi all,

Good news: The alpha 2 release is now published, see https://github.com/openhab/openhab2/releases/tag/2.0.0-alpha2

Thanks to everyone who made this possible - I think we have quite an impressive list of new 2.0-enabled bindings already and there is a lot more in the pipeline. Let's keep things moving!

Best regards,
Kai

Great Progress. Thanks for all the work!

just discovered that some of the cfg files in the ADDON zip are missing.

about 50 bindings listed vs. only 27 cfg files. Missing for example the pioneer cfg. As this one is what i use. I copied details from 1.x - not sure if others are missing as well.

Cheers
Karsten

You only need the cfg files for the 1.x bundles, that’s why they are less.
