icons

Hi,

I have been looking at the different icons from openhab. general I like the icons.

yet it's a limited set.

https://github.com/openhab/openhab/tree/master/distribution/openhabhome/webapps/images

I assume these are the only icons part of openhab.

A) is this correct? if not, where can  I find the others?

If A) is correct, what is the policy for adding new icons?

I assume that the new icon's need to be free of copy right.

any other (technical and non technical) restrictions?

 

things I'm missing are

- postbus

- gate

- stairs

- toilet

- shower

-other office icons

- driveway

- television

-secondfloor

- a few sports icons (like basketball)

- sauna...

- bicycle

- car

...

Sure: right click on Icon > Properties > there you are ;-)

Why? These Icons are meant to be used in Open Source projects and are published under the CC3 (see http://sourceforge.net/p/openautomation/code/HEAD/tree/tools/knx-uf-iconset/trunk/license.txt).

Sure: right click on Icon > Properties > there you are ;-)

I ment an automatic test. At a project in 2005 (wow already that long ago...)

we had a test, that tested if the images used in our application where not to big, and that failed our build when people uploaded images that were too big, that has saved us multiple times.

this was a closes source project, yet we had lots of integrators using our software and adding images to be used at the client side. as the network was used to send a lot of data, it was important to keep the images smal enough.

it's was a small test to keep our integrators honest (and teached them at the same time)

Why? These Icons are meant to be used in Open Source projects and are published under the CC3 (see http://sourceforge.net/p/openautomation/code/HEAD/tree/tools/knx-uf-iconset/trunk/license.txt).

oh, Ok, I will see this week if I can add them to OpenHab library.

It imho won't make much sense to add them to the openHAB icons - this is an alternative iconset that could be used as a replacement instead.

Note that for openHAB 2, it will be possible to switch between iconsets (see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=423545) and the KUF iconset is already in progress of being added there.

that is a very good idea.

 

I think even better would be if people could add their own icon sets and you can combine them (with some configurations just like the bindings work

then I can even add picture of my children to their room

Yves, do you want to add more icons to openhab public releases or just for you own installation? For you private installation, you can use any icons you find or your children pictures without problems. Just add new icons to openhab/webapps/images folder.

For you private installation, you can use any icons you find or your children pictures without problems.

And in openHAB 2 you will even have a separate folder for your private icons, so that you do not have to sort things again and again when updating to a newer openHAB release :-)

As Pali says, if you want to contribute additional icons to openHAB 1, this is always welcome - they should just in general match the appearance of the existing ones, so having a different style (like the KUF ones) is not a so good idea.
